So what is the best guitar to choose? Should I buy a really expensive one or should I go for a cheap crappy piece of wood just incase I decide I want to give up after two minutes?Let me put it this way.
The last guitar that I bought was from a guitar shop in London that buys good guitars from skint musicians for very little money and then goes on to sell them at ridiculous markups. I just happened to be in this shop when the guy who sets the guitars up upstairs had just finished this Ibanez Steve Vai type RG and it was absolutely fucking amazing! There's no other words to describe it.
He wanted Over $1000 for it and I knew I wasn't going to pay him what he was asking for because this guitar was well beatup. It looked like it had seen many many gigs and tours. But man alive when I put it across my knee and strummed and picked a few notes slightly nervously because everybody was looking to see what I know on the guitar - I just thought - Oh man, I gots to have it!
So what was the point of that little story then?
Well, in truth it really isn't about the price of the guitar. The question is do you like it?
What does it feel like?
You could very possibly be putting a strap over your neck for the next 30 years! It might as well be something you actually like to hold!
Well, just to tell you that I did walk out of that shop with that particular guitar for $750 and that story was 22 years ago!
And Im still playin and its great!
