You may look the part but can you play the part? It's important that you know how to play. You are of course, going to need to know the basics first of guitar. You have to be familiar with playing to try to go into lead guitar licks. Then you may want to get so music designed just for solo and lead guitar since background chords will be different.
You can find these music chords from friends, music instructors, music stores, and even online. In fact, the internet has many options for you when it comes to guitar music. A quick search will show you there are tons of sites dedicated to guitar music.
If you know someone who plays lead guitar, you may ask them for advice on how they got started, what they played, etc. You may also want to study your favorite performer. Listen to their music over and over again. Try to mimic it. Watch videos and try to mimic their actions. You may even be lucky enough to find instructional videos by lead guitarists.
Of course, the final and most important thing is to practice, practice, practice!
