Who Is David Gilmour?David Gilmour was the guitarist and singer for Pink Floyd. Gilmour was born March 6, 1946 in Grantchester Meadows, Cambridge. Pink Floyd fans may remember when Syd Barrett became unstable to other members of the band and they set out to replace him. The replacement they chose, Gilmour, was actually Barrett's childhood friend. Their style was very much alike as Gilmour had been the one to teach Barrett to play guitar. After Pink Floyd's second album, A Saucerful of Secrets, Gilmour became a full member of the band. After Roger Waters left, he then became the frontman of the band. Gilmour may be one of the most successful guitar players in the world. He secured a whole new generation of Pink Floyd fans and did untold wonders for the band's fame. |

Personal Life In the early nineties, Gilmour divorced his wife Ginger with which he has 4 children. He moved in with Polly Samson and now has a son with her. Gilmour now has 3 children from his second marriage to Polly as well. Samson is a journalist that wrote some of the lyrics for Division Bell . Gilmour's neighbor and band mate, Nick Mason live in Maida Vale, London. Gilmour has a fully equipped recording studio in his houseboat on the Thames.
